If you are cooking a complex dish, take some of the stress out of it by having your needed ingredients lined up and ready. By doing all of your preparation in advance, you avoid the stress and just enjoy your meal.

Don't throw away that runny sauce, as there is an easy fix available. Make a mixture of two tablespoons of water and one tablespoon corn starch. Slowly add this mixture to your simmering sauce to thicken it up. To prevent the sauce from getting overly thick, pour the corn starch and water mixture into the sauce very slowly and be sure that you are stirring it constantly.

If you are preparing stir-fry, be sure to slice the meat on the bias and very thin. It can be difficult to slice the meat, and it takes some time. You should take the meat out when it reaches a firm state yet not frozen, and slice across the grain at an angle of 45 degrees.

For crispier French fries, let raw potatoes stand for 30 minutes in a cold pot of water. Letting sliced potatoes soak up additional cold fluids reinforces the fibers in the vegetable, so that when you deep fry them, they can better withstand the heat without breaking down completely.

Do you feel guilty when you toss rotten, uneaten fruit in the garbage? Do you wonder if you can still use the fruit by simply cutting out the part that seems overripe? It's not safe to try to save partially rotted fruit. The mold and spoilage that you can see is only part of the problem with marginal-looking fruit; even the parts that appear pristine can be unsafe to eat.

If you have sauce left over after a meal, store the remainder in one or more ice cube trays and let it freeze. When you'd like to make a quick and easy meal later on, you just have to pop out a few cubes of sauce and reheat them in a pan. Do not worry, the sauce will still be edible after it has been in the ice cube trays!

Sauteing veggies in a bit of chicken broth is a healthy way you can prepare them. The vegetables will take on the broth flavor, and reduce the oil that is used when sauteing. This method of cooking vegetables will be tasty and rich in nutrients.

Know how much cooking oil to use. Refrain from unmeasured pours from a bottle, focusing instead on lowering the fat content by awareness. Measuring the oil will let you closely examine how much oil you are using.

Store your dry goods, like sugar, flour, baking mix, and so forth, in airtight containers. Airtight containers are best because they prevent bugs from getting into your food and also allow it to stay fresh for a longer time. These containers can be purchased at many retail locations and are a great investment for the money,

When you are planning to make quite a detailed meal, do some of the prep work the day before to reduce some of the stress involved. Make sure you have all your ingredients before you start cooking, and that you shop and measure them so they are ready to go.
